In an effort to introduce you all to the Concept Envy team, we’ve been sitting down with members of the squad and asking them to tell us a little about themselves. This week, meet Drake, our Web Developer.
Drake, can you tell us a little about yourself?
It all started in the modern day Utopia that is known in these parts as “South Milwaukee”. Just another recent college grad with the world wide open in front of him, his professional hockey career done before it even started (unless the NHL execs wise up).
With my hockey days behind me, I knew I needed to find another way to make it in this strange life of ours. I figured the best way to connect myself to the world around me was through the ever increasing connectivity technology allows us. Wanting to be more than “that guy that knows computers”, I also followed my passion in creativity and the arts. This path has led me to obtain degrees in Computer Science and Graphic Design from THE Carroll University. To continue the theme of being well rounded (without becoming literally rounded) I also was the captain of the lacrosse team, and ran in the cross country and track teams at Carroll.
What do you love about web development?
I love that it is a medium where you can utilize both technology and creativity. The limits of the internet are constantly being pushed which allows a developer to deliver experiences that are unique and mind-blowing. Take a moment to think about the way you used the internet 5 years ago versus today. I’m willing to bet there have been a few changes and I am excited to have an influence on that.
Why did you decide to join the Concept Envy team?
As I mentioned earlier the cruel stroke of fate crushed my nascent hockey career, I decided my next best option was pursuing a career at a creative agency. Concept Envy seemed like the coolest one. Concept Envy also has a very talented, motivated, and creative team that will constantly keep me growing. And the office is pet friendly.
What do you do when you’re not building websites for Concept Envy clients?
Beyond the computer screen, I like to explore design and creativity with a more analog approach. I have a newfound passion for screen printing, calligraphy and 35mm film photography. It is a goal of mine to become highly skilled in these hobbies, so I can bring my burgeoning talents into my professional career.
I also enjoy running, and continue to run competitively in track and cross country – so if you want to go for a run, just let me know! If I find that I’m still not busy enough, my brother and I like to go on impromptu (nice way of saying poorly planned, isn’t it?) road trips. Discovering the good, the beautiful, and the weird this land of ours has to offer.
